“I had the absolute best experience with Eli. He held my hand every step of the way with my case. He was overly prepared and help me reverse/be prepared for my trial time. He is authentic, kind and compassionate. He made me feel like a friend not a client. I would 100% use him again. He was the best investment I ever made. I was thrilled when he helped me when a case I really thought was hopeless. I cannot even begin to express my gratitude. Hire him. You won’t be disappointed.”
Eli Timberg is a criminal defense attorney with a focus on domestic violence, drugs, and DWI and a track record of delivering for his clients. Prior to joining Rawls, Scheer, Clary & Mingo in 2022, Eli spent more than six years at the Mecklenburg County Public Defender, where he gained considerable experience representing clients accused of misdemeanor assault, felony drug and property charges, and domestic violence.
Eli’s specialty is taking on the most challenging cases and securing the best outcome for his clients. While he has taken dozens of cases to trial and prevailed in many, he also understands that many good outcomes can be achieved without trial by learning from, listening to, and truly understanding his clients and their goals.
While at the Mecklenburg County Public Defender, Eli spent two years in the misdemeanor domestic violence courtroom, representing people accused of assault, communicating threats, violating domestic violence protection orders, among other charges. His caseload then included the full spectrum of misdemeanors, including DWI cases. In 2018, he was promoted to the Felony Drug and Property team, where his caseload covered charges such as drug trafficking, embezzlement, and various forms of fraud. Before making the switch to private practice, Eli worked on the Special Crimes Team, where he argued cases on behalf of clients accused of felony domestic violence and child pornography.
Eli received his bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut and his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He fell in love with legal advocacy while working at the Bread for the City Legal Clinic in Washington, DC, as part of the Jewish service program, Avodah. While there, he represented clients with low incomes in Social Security Disability hearings. He then worked as intern investigator at the DC Public Defender Service where he found his true calling—criminal defense.
Eli was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Blacksburg, VA, and Charlotte, NC, where he attended East Mecklenburg High School and Northwest School of the Arts. He calls East Charlotte home and enjoys cooking on the weekends for his wife, son, and chihuahua mix.
