Job Title

Associate Attorney – Felony Litigation Support

Job Summary

The attorney in this position will support three criminal defense partners in managing complex felony cases in both State and Federal courts. The associate attorney will be involved in all aspects of case preparation including client contact, investigation, discovery review, legal research, motions, drafting documents, case analysis, and trial preparation. The associate attorney will also try some cases as second chair. It is expected that at such time as their skill set allows, the associate attorney will serve as lead counsel on misdemeanor cases.

Job Responsibilities

  • Digest, analyze and summarize discovery
  • Coordinate and direct investigators, forensic experts, etc.
  • Work with clients and witnesses during case preparation (interviews, discovery review, hearings and trials)
  • Research and write motions and legal memoranda
  • Assist partners in preparing for trials
  • Serve as second chair in trial as needed
  • Assist in preparing CLE and public speaking presentations on related criminal law topics

Qualifications/Skills

  • Licensed to practice law in North Carolina
  • Strong interest in Criminal Law
  • Upper level criminal law classes (preferred)
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Proficient in Adobe Pro, Excel, Power Point, Westlaw and/or Lexis research apps
  • Some experience with case mapping/visualization software preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work with all types of clients
  • Maintain compassion and mental toughness while handling emotionally challenging cases
  • Strong time management skills with ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
  • Minimum one year of practicing law (preferred)
  • Minimum one year of work experience prior to law school (preferred)
